Setting up the Child Care Subsidy
Subsidised hours, income estimate, and making sure the subsidy is ready for care.
- 1
Check your subsidised hours
From 5 January 2026, eligible families can get at least 72 subsidised hours per fortnight under the 3 Day Guarantee, regardless of recognised participation. Participation or exemptions may allow more hours. Other eligibility rules and gap fees still apply — check Services Australia's current guidance.
- 2
Estimate your family income
CCS percentage is based on your combined family income estimate. Estimate carefully — if you overestimate you get less during the year (but get the balance later); underestimate and you may owe money back.
- 3
Apply before care starts
Lodge the CCS claim through myGov linked to Centrelink before your child's first day, then confirm the enrolment. If care has already started, check the official claim timing and backdating rules rather than assuming you cannot claim.
- 4
Confirm the enrolment
When the centre enrols your child, a 'confirmation of enrolment' appears in your Centrelink account. Check and confirm it — subsidies won't flow until you do.
Rules and rates change — confirm the details there before you apply.
